Werbeck Singing – starting with the name…

We should begin our story about “Werbeck Singing” by explaining terminology. Although the term “Werbeck Singing” is accepted in everyday speech, I must emphasise that it is not fully accurate. It would be more accurate to use the longer, but the only correct term – ‘the School of Uncovering of the Voice “(„die Schule der Stimmenthüllung“).

This singing approach has been developed by Valborg Werbeck-Svärdström, Swedish female opera singer. Her aim was not to train the voice, but to set it free. Therefore, in the “the School of Uncovering of the Voice” singing is not considered as a result of the activity of particular organs or parts of the body, but as the expression of our whole being. However, the voice can be “imprisoned” due to various physiological and other obstacles. With Werbeck Singing method such obstacles can be removed and the inherent qualities of every human being can be revealed.
